The Big C

As many of you know from reading my blog, I was diagnosed with cancer back in 2018. My journey has been intense and eye-opening. Let’s fast forward a bit to 2022, a pivotal year when I started diving deeply into the world of energy, food, nutrition, and how they truly affect the body. From scientific research, I already understood that energy exists in everything around us. This explains why my mood can shift and be transferred to someone sitting just a few feet away—it’s all interconnected. There’s a powerful phrase I live by: “As within, so without.” Simply put, what you put into something is exactly what you get back—not because you expect it, but because it’s the natural flow of give and take, the ebb and flow of life. Balance is what I love to call it.

I once dreamed of opening a restaurant centered on this powerful concept: the way we prepare your meal, the energy and care we put into it, infused with mindfulness, transforms how your body absorbs the food. It’s about receiving the full nutrition and value of every bite, not just eating to fill a void. I wanted to name it Pure Intentions—because that’s exactly what it would embody. The truth is, we pour healing energy into the food we create, and those who eat it receive far more than nutrients—they absorb the very essence of that positive energy. While savoring their meals, guests become mindful of the healing benefits and nutrients working to restore and balance their bodies naturally. This is food with a purpose, food that heals on every level.

About a week ago I was given a special book, “I used to have Cancer” Memoir about James Templetons journey through Cancer. How he was able to take a Stage 4 Cancer and Change His life to becoming Healthier. I recall from his book he ran out of the hospital at 2 am after his first week long course of treatment. He was given a virus to make him more sick so his immune system would react, then administer chemo after he was with fever. His doctor said his body wasn’t responding to the treatment as expected..Recovery wasn’t really a true recovery. It felt more like a diminished existence—less about truly living and more about merely surviving. It was a shadow of what it means to be fully human. Just before he managed to break free from his treatment, two extraordinary miracles unfolded in his life. These incredible events became the turning point, guiding him toward a completely new approach to reclaim his life and embrace genuine vitality once again. He traveled to the Kushi Institute for a week to study the Macrobiotic Diet. Later, he returned to live and work there for several years. James learned that the energy we put in and how we prepare our meals, combined with the thoughts we think with our food combine helped heal his body. The fresh food he ate with the intentions he put into his food helped save his life.

That’s a big thing I want to teach and build a culture around: intention. From the way we grow our food to how we carefully harvest and thoughtfully prepare each meal—it all matters. Create every dish with a clear mind and a purposeful intention, understanding the role each herb and spice plays. Consider the flavor, how all the tastes and textures blend harmoniously. Think beyond taste—focus on how it will nourish, benefit, and ultimately lengthen your life. When you provide proper nutrition with the genuine intent of healing, your body won’t resist; it will respond, thrive, and flourish. Know that eating with the goal of connecting mind, body, and soul brings true balance.
